Born in the North East and brought up in the South West, Matt Black has been DJing and making music for around 25 years.
He moved to London in 1991 where he discovered his love for dance music and ravingand even though his original love was hardcore and drum and bass it was upon hearing a John Digweed mix tape back in 1994 that he realised his musical calling in life.
He began by playing in pubs and bars around South London before getting his first club gig in 1995. Since then he has played for a number of London's biggest underground promoters as well as Empathy in Bristol, Riff Raff in Middlesbrough and The Gallery in London where he warmed up for none other than Dave Seaman, he has also performed in countries such as Poland and Mexico.
Matt is not only a DJ, but also produces tracks. He has had releases and remixes signed to labels such as Bonzai, Pro-B-Tech, Mirabilis and Segment records the label he cofounded. He also won the remix competition for Keep Thinking and had his remix of I feel her Butterfly by Stas Drive released alongside label heavyweights such as Steve McGrath and GMJ.
Matts productions have been well supported over the years and have been in the boxes of prog heavyweights such as Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo and with more productions and remixes forthcoming in the future Matts star continues to rise.
